Dr. Shum is a Certified Specialist in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics.  She graduated from the orthodontic program at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine and Forsyth Dental Center in Boston, Massachusetts.  She received her dentistry degree,  Doctor of Dental Medicine, magna cum laude, from Tufts School of Dental Medicine in 1994.  While at Tufts University, she was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society. During her externship, she worked in New York City at the military base on Governors Island and treated families of the US Coast Guard.  Dr. Shum also completed Tweed Orthodontic Study Course at the Charles Tweed International Foundation for Orthodontic Research in Tucson, Arizona.

Prior to dentistry, Dr. Shum graduated from the University of Toronto in the Department of Biochemistry and Physical Chemistry.
